Ms. Yi-Baker joined SAL as our advisor in August and has gone above and beyond any of our expectations in supporting the SJSU chapter of SAL. We had been struggling for quite some time with the level of participation in our chapter, both at our meetings and with our activities. Hyon Chu was aware of this and offered to help. She met with me and with our other officers to help us plan and strategize for the fall and the spring semesters. Her insights helped us to create and implement a plan to improve our chapter.

Hyon Chu Yi-Baker
Hyon Chu Yi-Baker received her BA in American Cultural Studies at Western Washington University in 1994 and earned a MS degree from Colorado State University in Student Affairs in Higher Education in 1996. She has been the Director of MOSAIC Cross Cultural Center at San Jose State University since 2002. She is dedicated to enhancing and advocating for the academic and cultural empowerment of historically under-represented students. She supports pedagogy that focuses on the learning and teaching of cultural differences as it relates to enhancing the relationship between people across ethnic, gender, sexual, age, religious, and cultural lines. Mrs. Yi-Baker was the former President of the California Council of Cultural Centers in Higher Education. In her spare time she stays active with non-profit organizations that foster social responsibility and positive social change. She lives in San Jose with her husband and baby daughter.
